This lens has a 1:2 maximum close-up magnification at the 300mm focal length. Excellent performance telephoto zoom lens for digital and 35mm SLR cameras. It also has a switch for changeover to macro photography at focal lengths between 200mm and 300mm. The minimum focusing distance is 1.5 meter (59.1 inches), at all zoom settings. It has as well a SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass in this lens for excellent correction of chromatic aberration. This lens is well built and very strong. The auto focus is fast and accurate and very rarely gets caught "searching". Results are very sharp straight out of the camera and color saturation i found was even better than the kit lens. You really will be getting pro quality results in no time with this baby. As this is not a VR lens, i would recommend the use of a tripod for non professional photographers and as you may find it heavy and experience "camera shake" but that is to be expected of a lens this size.
